According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone maker Apple has revealed the possibility of launching its first foldable iPhone in 2026. According to Kuo, the first foldable iPhone will be like a book, similar to Samsung’s foldable Galaxy Z series, instead of a clamshell form factor. It is speculated that the foldable iPhone will have a 7.8-inch internal display that is designed to be “crease-free“. It has been designed in a way that makes it very different from other foldable phones currently available. Efficient engineering has been applied here. It is said that the external display will measure 5.5 inches.
Kuo further added that the device is going to have a titanium alloy chassis, dual-camera system, and a thin profile which will be less than 5mm when unfolded and 9-9.5mm when folded. The foldable iPhone has internally created space implications, which means that this device can have its Touch ID implemented as a side-mounted sensor rather than Face ID.
While initial shipments of foldable iPhones in 2026 are expected to be between 3 million and 5 million units, Apple is reported to have ordered a total of 15 million to 20 million foldable iPhones.
